It’s time for the impact of your body of work to be felt beyond your CV.
It’s time to hone your point of view. Build out your thought leadership. Launch your specialised practice …And it’s time to grow into the person who does it.
And being able to have the wherewithal to make things right, involves learning to navigate what is uncertain and… emotionally messy.
What I want you to know is there isn’t any one “right” step —just the step you make right.
Your relationship with the uncertain and liminal process of stepping into the thought leadership chapter of your career is impacting how you think about yourself, your career, how you make decisions and how you take action (or don’t take action- 👋🏼 hello perfectionism and procrastination).
(Your least favourite thing)
Things are feeling emotionally messy.
Every time you take a step forward, you feel like you’re psychologically back in the wilderness fending off the unknown in the bushes and testing out the berries.
Lost in the fog of: “I don’t know.” You want reassurance and certainty that whatever step you take is going to be the “right” one, and so you’re waiting for outside validation, the shoulder tap, permission, the irrefutable green light, that “yes, you should do this” AND “yes, you are the one to do it.”
Stuck in the quicksand of: “why bother?” Whatever is next is going to ask a lot of you. There is a lot on the line- your reputation, time, energy, funds. You make and remake your decision to just do the thing, only to end up talking yourself out of it and filling every waking hour with busy work.
Spinning with the thought of not being “ready enough” to be the person you need to be to take the next step. You don’t feel quite up to the task, so you’re over-preparing and over-complicating by adding a lot of extra steps before you can get started (including ever-more education like a second masters, or a second Ph.D.! 👀)
you find yourself:
In this in between space,
While being hesitant feels out of step with a world that is often too certain, too surface, and too quick to answer, I have found that what most self-doubt really points to is a person who sees there is more than meets the eye and deeply cares.
Conscientiousness with your work is a very good thing…until it tips over into this kind of limbo space, where you and “what’s next” in your career remain suspended in time.
For over 15 years my nerdy obsession as an academic research scientist was all about how to cultivate psychological flexibility, a super skill in navigating “the messy”—all things complex, uncertain, and meaningful.
This body of work led to all kinds of impressive things: a book, publications in research journals, conference presentations delivered around the world—and most importantly, the skills to navigate the psychological “wilderness” we have inside each of us.
Several years ago, I moved my work out of the lab and into my coaching practice to create a body of work I call: Meaningful Mastery.
Ready (enough) to work hard and with courage to improve your practice, process and craft consistently over a period of time with direct 1:1 support and guidance
Finding you have outgrown some things you shaped your identity around, but can’t seem to let go
Wanting help articulating your work, honing your point of view and developing your thought leadership
Feeling tentative about your voice, your style, and your ideas
Spinning and preoccupied with worry about what your peers and mentors will think
Nervous about the ways you can see you need to grow
Make work that matters.
Become the person who does it.
That’s what we do here.
As your coach, I ask, listen, guide, teach and I'll even do hands-on developmental edits of your work during our coaching sessions. When we meet, we discuss your recent progress or blocks, we troubleshoot stuck points, clear internal fog, and develop your ideas.
We also learn about your patterns, challenges, gifts, and opportunities. Sharing the behind the scenes of your work (both your inner world and tangible results) allows you to get clear on where your growth edges are, so you can start doing your best, most meaningful work.
Our work together is equal parts deep self-inquiry, and equal parts roll up your sleeves and make it happen. During our sessions together, we practice what you want to make progress on in a tangible way.
No endless prepping, planning or studying “how to”- we get into it, and do the thing.
It’s also that edgy.
We’ll show up together and keep showing up,
every week, for six months.
It’s that simple.
Learn what practical steps to take to make your thought leadership and in-demand practice real, including: how to test and launch new frameworks, projects and offers, how to build a portfolio of career assets that creates demand for the work you most want to do, and resourcing your career with time, energy and funds.
Build the backbone of your career confidence by learning and practicing new ways of taking action, including: identifying and communicating your professional point of view, developing your thought leadership, establishing the foundations of a successful practice, building and maintaining right-fit professional relationships, and hearing the signal through the noise of feedback.
Strengthen your courage muscle, so you can better navigate the emotional messiness that is inherent to stepping into the thought leadership chapter of your career.
Discern what meaningful mastery looks like for you from the inside out, and identify your criteria for fulfilment and satisfaction in your work.
